'COUNCIL FAILING TO MEET RESIDENTS' DEMAND FOR RECYCLING' - LORELY BURT MP

5.55.01pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 26th Apr 2007

Solihull Council is still failing to meet demand from residents for recycling, claims Lorely Burt MP after she witnessed yet more weekend overflow at the new plastics recycling point on Monkspath Hall Road.

The Solihull MP has raised concerns of capacity for the new service over a number of weeks, leading to the installation of extra containers at the Monkspath Hall site, but today she found that the entire recycling area was still awash with plastics because there was no room left in the containers.

Lorely Burt MP said:

COUNCIL FAILING TO MEET RESIDENTS' DEMAND FOR RECYCLING'- LORELY BURT MP

"I was aghast to see that despite all the council's promises, they are simply failing to meet the demand for recycling from Solihull residents, resulting in an ugly mess of materials strewn across the recycling area that council employed contractors tell residents they clear away to landfill.

"It simply isn't good enough. I took more photographs of the overflow today and I have set them to Councillor David Bell, who is responsible for the service.

"I have also spoken to Councillor Bell to ask what he intends to do about the overspill. The council is not providing adequate facilities and they must either increase the capacity or make sure that the containers are replaced more frequently
