SOLIHULL MP TO QUIZ MINISTER ON SOLIHULL A&E

10.52.41pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 12th Nov 2007

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt is set to quiz Health Ministers in Parliament tomorrow on the future of Accident and Emergency care following recent concerns over A&E at Solihull Hospital.

Mrs Burt will ask the Minister what steps he is taking to ensure that emergency care is provided at the nearest A&E before raising concerns over the level of service provided at Solihull.

Lorely Burt MP said:

"Concerns have been expressed at patients being taken past Solihull to A&E at Heartlands. There is a very real concern amongst constituents that the A&E service at Solihull amounts to not much more than a minor injuries clinic.

"I am seeking further reassurances from Heart of England Trust bosses that the future of a full accident and emergency service at Solihull is secure. However, I also want to alert the Secretary of State for Health to resist the temptation to allow Trusts to effect a downgrade of one facility where two Accident and Emergency units operate fairly close together."
