Charles Roy Taylor Imprisonment - demonstrates failures of secret trials?

9.28.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 14th Nov 2007

John Hemmings MP

John Hemming MP, Chairman of Justice for Families, has challenged the government over the imprisonment of Charles Roy Taylor by Tabling a Commons Motion.

"Charles Taylor has been imprisoned for 20 months", he said, "this imprisonment has not happened after a public trial, but instead in a secret court. This is just not acceptable. He is 71 years old and has a cardiac condition. We are releasing violent prisoners early, but his crime is merely that of disobeying a judge and involves no violence".

"How can Gordon Brown claim to support human rights when he allowed secret jailings of some 200 people each year. Secret Jailings must stop."
